Wild Elephant Blocks Road Near Corbett

Recently, a calm Sunday evening turned tense near the wild and famous Jim Corbett National Park. This wild park is in Uttarakhand and is home to animals like tigers, elephants, leopards, etc. On the Sunday evening, a wild tusker suddenly appeared on the Ramnagar - Bhandarpani road in front of the tourists. He came onto the road and began moving toward vehicles, which created panic among tourists.

According to the latest reports, this incident happened near the Tedha gate. Few tourists were going away from the park, and suddenly, a big elephant appeared in front of them. He began moving towards the vehicle, and people were shocked when they saw the tusker blocking their way. Some vehicles stopped, while others tried to reverse to a safe distance.

In this incident, one family even had to come out of the vehicle and run in the opposite direction to save themselves. Luckily, no one was hurt, but they were scared after this incident. This incident showed how the calm moments can become a thrilling one, near the Jim Corbett National Park.

What Exactly Happened

On 19th October 2025, a big elephant suddenly came out of the thick forest area of the Jim Corbett National Park, and it stood in the middle of the road. At that time, many people were going from Ramnagar to nearby villages, but because of the elephant, they had to stop their vehicles.

The elephant was making loud sounds and moving its ears fast. This showed that he was angry, and out of fear, the people started going back slowly. Out of all the vehicles, one car caught the elephant’s eye. The elephant ran toward that car. The people inside got scared and ran away. The elephant hit the car a little and then moved to the side of the road.

Everyone was scared at the time - some people started honking, and some stayed quiet inside their cars. After a few minutes, the elephant became calm and went back into the forest. Then people started driving again. Later, the forest officers said that these kinds of things are happening more nowadays on the roads that are closer to the park.

Why These Incidents Happen

This is not the first time an elephant has come out near the Jim Corbett area. In fact, this region is known for frequent elephant crossings, especially during the evening hours.

There are a few key reasons behind this:

  1. Forest Roads Near Human Areas: Roads like Ramnagar - Bhandarpani are between the reserve area. Many times, wild animals cross roads to go from one zone to another.

  2. Search for Food and Water: During the dry season, animals and other animals move from one spot to another for food and water.

  3. Disturbance Inside the Forest: Sometimes the construction of hotels or loud noise can disturb the animals, so they move from their regular spaces to other ones.

  1. Loss of the Roads: As people build more villages and roads, the old paths used by animals get blocked. Because of this, elephants have to find new roads.

So, it’s not that the elephant attacked people for no reason. It is possible that the elephant was confused abut the road, finding food or water and maybe scared at that time.

How You Can Remain Safe

If you plan to visit Jim Corbett National Park or drive near the area of this wild park, then you can take some precautions to stay safe in this area:

1. Drive Slowly in the Area It is always recommended to keep your speed slow near the forest areas. It gives more time to react if the animals come out suddenly. Doing this will keep you safe and also the wild animals.

2. Avoid Using Horns

Loud horns can disturb and scare the animals. That’s why we always suggest tourists avoid using horns or keep the volume as low as possible. By doing this, you help keep the animals calm and remain safe from them.

3. Stay inside the vehicle

Even if you see a deer near the area, don’t come out of the vehicle. Any animal can come in front of you out of nowhere. It can be dangerous to move out of the vehicle, even just for taking pictures. Keep a distance from the animals and stay inside your car or gypsy.

4. Don’t use Flashes

Flashes or headlights, especially at night time can scare the animals. It can also disturb them, and they might turn angry because of it. So, keep your flashes off and try to use the roads till evening only, so that you can drive in natural light. This way, you will be safe from the wild animals.

5. Give Space and Keep Calm

If you see animals near the road or on it, then keep calm and stay safe. Don’t panic or use the horns, or do not try to shoo them, as it can trigger them. Just stay calm and move back slowly, or just stay still. Try to call the forest helpline number because many times the guards are patrolling, and they can prevent risky encounters.

6. See Warning Signs

There are clear large boards near the forest area roads. People should see them while moving near the park, as it can help them to stay safe. These boards often tell drivers to slow down, avoid honking, and stay alert for animals crossing the road.

Final Thoughts

This incident scared many tourists who were there at that time, as they were going to enjoy the Jim Corbett Safari. It showed the people that they are near a wild area. Whenever you go for trips near the wild areas or national parks, remember that you’re going to the home of wild animals. It is highly important for people to go there with calmness and presence of mind.

Using horns or shouting during such incidents can make the animals more angry. That’s why the forest department always asks people to drive slowly and keep a distance from wild animals. Elephants and other animals can be spotted easily near the park areas, as it's their home, and they keep moving from one spot to another. We should respect their space and avoid disturbing them.
