Established in 1980, the park spans over 1,334 square kilometers, with a diverse landscape of dry deciduous forests, rocky hills, and open grasslands. In addition to tigers, Ranthambore is home to a variety of wildlife, including leopards, sloth bears, Indian wild boars, crocodiles, and numerous bird species. The park's topography, marked by ancient ruins, lakes, and meandering streams, adds a historical element to the wildlife experience. Find more about ranthambore

Ranthambore National Park, located in Rajasthan, India, has a rich history that goes beyond its status as a wildlife reserve. Originally a hunting ground for Maharajas of Jaipur, it was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1955. Later, in 1973, it became one of the initial nine tiger reserves under Project Tiger.

The park's centerpiece is the historic Ranthambore Fort, dating back to the 10th century, which stands on top of a hill within the reserve. This fort has witnessed centuries of history, including the rule of the Chauhan dynasty and subsequent periods of Mughal and British influence.

In the 20th century, efforts were made to conserve the area's wildlife, leading to its designation as a National Park in 1980. Ranthambore is renowned for its tiger population, and conservation measures have helped in sustaining and increasing the number of these majestic tigers. Today, it's a significant destination for wildlife enthusiasts and tourists seeking to experience both nature and history.
